PlayStation VR Release Date & Price
PlayStation VR is launching this year, this much you probably already know. But when? And how much will it cost? And where can you get one? These are all very important questions, but also do you have the essential hardware to run it?
The PlayStation VR requires Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) PlayStation Camera to operate, which at present has not been confirmed as part of a bundle with the head-mounted display (HMD) for Europe. American consumers can pre-order a package including the PlayStation VR, PlayStation Camera and PlayStation VR Worlds now, but European gamers will need to ensure that they purchase the PlayStation Camera separately.
PlayStation VR Release Date
At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) earlier this year, two years after the initial unveiling of the HMD, SIE announced that the PlayStation VR would be available as a consumer product from October 2016. No specific release date has yet been announced, but is likely to be confirmed at this month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Los Angeles.
Upon the announcement of a release date many online retailers opened their pre-order campaigns. Selling out ‘very fast’, more stock is routinely added to principle retailers’ inventories; however as of right now there’s little information on as-and-when such additions are made. This largely depends on the manufacturing process and exactly how many PlayStation VR units SIE can produce in time for launch.
PlayStation VR Price
In terms of pricing, The PlayStation VR is available to pre-order in two different packages in the US, but only as a standalone product throughout Europe. The PlayStation VR Launch Bundle available in the US includes a PlayStation Camera, two PlayStation Move controllers, PlayStation VR Worlds and the PlayStation VR HMD itself.
PlayStation VR standalone: $399 USD, £349 GBP, $550 AU, $549.99 CAD.
PlayStation VR Launch Bundle: $499 USD
PlayStation VR Pre-Order
Presently, major retailers worldwide are showing that their launch day stock has already been fully pre-ordered. However, as stated above, a number of online retailers are routinely re-opening their pre-orders when new stock allocation is granted. At present, it appears to be Amazon that has the most frequent opportunities to pre-order the PlayStation VR HMD.
UK retailer GAME has a significant hold over the high street videogame market. Those UK gamers who are not fortunate enough to have secured a pre-order for the PlayStation VR are recommended to keep a regular check on GAME for additional stock.
