PlayStation VR Accessories

The PlayStation VR requires a PlayStation 4 console, this much is common knowledge. With the potential unveil of a new PlayStation 4 console coming at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), this month, things may become a little more confusing. However, what is and will remain standard is the demand on additional accessories that players will be required to invest in to make full use of the PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD).

PlayStation Camera

The PlayStation Camera is an essential purchase for the PlayStation VR. All HMD tracking is conducted via the PlayStation Camera, and while European gamers won’t be given the opportunity to purchase a package including the HMD and the PlayStation Camera (at least, no such bundle has been announced at the time of writing) US PlayStation 4 owners are offered a more comprehensive package.

DualShock 4 Controller

The DualShock 4 controller is the standard input device for the PlayStation 4 and comes packaged with every console. For many videogame titles this will be enough. The likes of The Assembly, Tethered, EVE: Valkyrie and more are all based on the idea of a traditional videogame control pad. PlayStation Move

The PlayStation Move isn’t essential for PlayStation VR, however there are a number of videogame titles that do demand motion-control input. Some videogames require just one PlayStation Move controller, others will need two to function to their fullest. The exact same PlayStation Move controllers originally launched for the PlayStation 3 are being utilised for PlayStation VR, so if you have a set tucked away in a draw somewhere it’s time to dust them off. If not, you’re probably best to go about getting hold of some now before demand for the motion-controllers skyrockets upon the PlayStation VR launch.
