Capcom Confirms Resident Evil 4 for Oculus Quest

Remember back in November 2020 when VRFocus reported on that Capcom hack? The one that reportedly said Resident Evil 4 would be released as an Oculus exclusive this month. Well, as it turns out that was completely and utterly true (who’d have thought it?). Today, Capcom held its Resident Evil Showcase which mainly focused on Resident Evil Village, whilst confirming more Resi goodness for virtual reality (VR) fans.

As most of you are probably well aware of, back in 2017 Capcom released Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, the first in the series to offer a first-person view. This meant it was a great fit for VR with the PlayStation 4 version also being compatible with PlayStation VR. To this day, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is one of the best titles for the headset – horror or otherwise – so it was always disappointing that never got to shine on any other headset.

So today’s confirmation offers a slight twist in the fact that it’ll be Resident Evil 4 getting a VR revamp. It was the first title in the series to move away from the slower, more methodical horror of its forebears, providing a more action-oriented gameplay experience. What the reveal today also manages to address is how Resident Evil 4’s third-person setup will work in VR, it’s going first-person.

Resident Evil 4 launched in 2005 so thankfully, Capcom in collaboration with Oculus Studios has nicely reworked it for VR. From what’s been shown so far the gameplay is looking promising with the guns reproduced for immersive gameplay, so you’ll be able to manually reload pistols and rifles. This continues a trend in seeing older videogames make their way into VR, most recently with the launch of Doom 3: VR Edition for PlayStation VR.

When’s it arriving? Resident Evil 4 hasn’t been given a date yet for Oculus Quest but more details will be released next week during the Oculus Gaming Showcase. VRFocus is certainly marking its calendar for more details as long-term Resident Evil fans. For further updates on its arrival, keep reading VRFocus.
