The Witcher: Monster Slayer is the Latest Franchise to Embrace AR Gaming

Niantic Labs’ Pokemon Go may have started the trend but in the past few years, some big franchises have come to mobile devices via augmented reality (AR) including Minecraft Earth, Ghostbusters World and The Walking Dead: Our World. The next to join this illustrious list is CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

Being developed and published by Spokko – part of the CD Projekt RED family – The Witcher: Monster Slayer is going to take a similar line to some of the aforementioned titles. It’ll be a free-to-play videogame for iOS and Android devices offering location-based RPG gameplay where you can fight monsters from the fantasy universe.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be set before the other The Witcher titles, tasking you with tracking, studying, and fighting free-roaming monsters, some of which will be familiar to players whilst others will be entirely new. Anyone used to this style of videogame will be familiar with layouts such as the map, where monsters will appear in nearby streets. Successful battles will see you awarded trophies to add to your creature collection.

You’ll be able to prepare for encounters by brewing powerful potions and oils, crafting bombs and making up some monster bait to lure them in. Being an RPG you’ll also be able to upgrade your character stats and select the best equipment for the job.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

As the whole franchise is rich in lore, The Witcher: Monster Slayer will also feature story-driven quests inspired by the rest of the series, so your casual afternoon walk can turn into a fully-fledged adventure into the magical realm – just don’t forget your phone.

When it comes to availability The Witcher: Monster Slayer doesn’t have a release date just yet, with Spokko set to reveal that information before the end of the year. As further details are released and for the latest AR updates, keep reading VRFocus.
