Solaris Offworld Combat has Been Delayed to September

Virtual reality (VR) multiplayer specialist First Contact Entertainment announced back in June that its next title Solaris Offworld Combat would be hitting Oculus Quest and Rift this month. Those plans have now slightly changed with the studio delaying the launch by a month.

Making the announcement via Twitter, the studio notes the reason for the delay: “In order that the day 1 play experience meets our expectations, we have made a small adjustment to our release plan.” In gaming terms it’s only a short delay, with Solaris Offworld Combat now due to arrive on 24th September.

This date is still only for Oculus Quest and Rift via the Oculus Store, with the PlayStation VR edition expected to arrive by the end of 2020. There will also be a Steam version expanding support to more PC VR headsets although there’s no specific timeframe at the moment.

Just like First Contact Entertainment’s Firewall Zero Hour, Solaris Offworld Combat will be a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS). Offering 4v4 arena battles, one gameplay mode called ‘Control Point’ has been revealed so far, where teams have to hold a specific location.

Unlike other multiplayer FPS titles where you can customise a loadout before heading into battle in Solaris Offworld Combat every player starts exactly the same, with a singular pistol. It’s only by exploring the arena that they’ll be able to find better and more destructive weapons including Grenade Launchers, Rocket Launchers, and Arc Rifles. Other useful items like health and shields can also be located.

The gameplay looks set to be fast and frantic with players able to slide across floors to shoot enemies or strategically grab a new weapon. Plus there are Jump Points dotted around arenas allowing players to teleport across the battlefield when required.
