Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond Story Trailer Released

One of the biggest virtual reality (VR) titles due for release in the second half of 2020 is Respawn Entertainment’s Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. The studio teased further details would be released today during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event and the team delivered, with a gameplay trailer focused on the storyline.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond certainly now looks the part from when VRFocus last saw the title during Oculus Connect 6. It’s easy to see this is an Oculus Rift videogame with richly detailed environments and plenty of action-packed locations.

Going for historic realism as much as engaging FPS gameplay, players take on the role of an agent for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in war-torn Europe, tasked with going on daring missions aiding the French Resistance and sabotaging Nazi bases on land, seas and air in a single-player campaign.

During the Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast, Peter Hirschmann, Game Director at Respawn Entertainment who also wrote the original Medal of Honor also revealed new details. Saying that it was “the most immersive combat experience,” he’d ever worked on, when asked by host Geoff Keighley about a multiplayer mode Hirschmann went onto say: “so we are shipping, in addition to the campaign, a full suite of VR modes including a few that you can only do in VR. And we’re really excited about people playing those.”

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond

Respawn Entertainment has been working with Oculus on the title since they teased a collaboration in 2017, with Executive Producer Mike Doran saying in a blog post: “It’s an honour to work with Respawn to bring Medal of Honor into VR. More than 20 years since the original made its debut on PlayStation, it’s a privilege to introduce a new generation to this groundbreaking franchise while letting fans revisit an old friend and step inside the game like never before.”

Respawn Entertainment will release Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond this holiday season for Oculus Rift/Rift S as well as Oculus Quest via Oculus Link. Further updates will be released during Facebook Connect next month, when that happens VRFocus will let you know.
