Choose Your Own Path Book Series Lone Wolf Coming to Mobile AR

It's expected to arrive by early 2020 at the latest.

When it comes to augmented reality (AR) gaming the sector is really heating up in 2019. Forget about Pokemon GO for a moment as titles like Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs and Reality Clash are two of the bigger videogames to arrive this year, with the likes of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Minecraft Earth still to come. Today, London-based developer VisionizAR has revealed its plans for a similar location-based experience called Lone Wolf AR.

Lone Wolf ARThe videogame will be based on the Lone Wolf ‘Choose Your Own Path’ book series, which was created by Joe Dever and first published in 1984; with the original series of 29 books going on to sell 9 million copies in 13 languages.

To create Lone Wolf AR, VisionizAR has teamed up with Ben Dever, the late author’s son, to ensure the AR version captures the same spirit of the books. The books are set in the fictional land of Magnamund and follow the adventures of Lone Wolf, the last of his caste of warrior monks known as the Kai Lords. Lone Wolf AR will be an RPG adventure, where you are able to play as characters based on the series. You’ll be able to go on quests to fight monsters and battle dangerous bosses, as well as solving puzzles.

Lesser enemies can be tackled alone but the boss fights will require cooperation with other players. You’ll have to protect your chosen Faction, and learn how your progress impacts the wider world of Magnamund and the Kai Lords. andAfter fights you need to return to your Homestead to build and repair equipment.

“It’s a childhood dream come true to be working with such a beloved fantasy series alongside Ben. Like many children at the time, I found Lone Wolf captivating and it truly was a forerunner to modern-day interactive adventures,” said Rene Batsford, VisionizAR founder in a statement. “I wanted to tap into the rich and detailed world that Joe Dever created and apply a modern twist using mobile-based augmented reality. Lone Wolf lends itself perfectly to location-based gaming.”

VisionizAR aims to release Lone Wolf AR in late 2019 or early 2020 on AR compatible iOS and Android devices. As further updates are released, VRFocus will let you know.
