Games for Change Launches Accelerator Programme for Gaming and XR Industry

Applications are now being accepted.

The Games for Change non-profit organisation has announced the launch of its Games for Change Accelerator programme to continue its mission empowering videogame creators and social innovators to impact real-world change.

Games for Change

The programme has been launched in partnership with investment firm i(x) investments and venture capital group Quake Capital. i(x) investments invest in areas of human need such as Renewable Energy, Green Commercial Real Estate, Carbon to Value, Gender Equality, Media, Education, Technology, and Health, which is why the accelerator has aligned with the company to deploy capital where it should have a significant impact.

Looking across the gaming and XR industries, the Games for Change Accelerator will admit two developer classes per year, known as “cohorts,” to come to Quake’s New York offices over a four-month period to support and fund their projects and ideas.

“Over the past 15 years, Games for Change has helped develop a community of practice around the belief that games can be a driver of social impact. Through our partnership with i(x) and Quake, we are thrilled to finally be able to play a role advancing the sector into a sustainable industry,” said Susanna Pollack, president of Games for Change in a statement. “In addition to offering funding, we’re connecting teams with the right partners and experts, as well as giving them significant network resources to reach their goals and change the world. We are excited to explore industries like healthcare and education where we have already seen the tremendous impact games and XR can have.”

Leveraging the growth of the gaming industry and advances in VR, AR and 5G technology has the ability to create positive disruptive impact in critical areas of human need like healthcare, education and social interaction,” said Trevor Neilson, co-founder and CEO, i(x) investments.
