Germany’s Virtual Reality & Arts Festival Opens Call for Creative Submissions

Last summer was the inaugural Virtual Reality & Arts Festival (VRHAM!), held in Hamburg, Germany. After a successful week-long show organisers went on to confirm the date for this year’s festival only a few months later. Now, VRHAM! 2019 has opened the call for submissions, looking for creators to fill a number of categories.

The theme of this year’s festival is “DIS:SOLUTION“, with the organisers saying in a statement: “We are looking for artists to present their own concepts of dis:solution, de:limitation, etc. Where do we cross borders, where do they blur? Whether your focus is on media, material, political, physical or associative aspects: how do the artistic considerations of your VR experience relate to our subject of  “DIS:SOLUTION“?”

The open call wants to cover three categories:

Artistic VR/AR/XR works presented in specially designed spaces.
Presenting Hamburg’s young VR artists to an international audience.
Two creative teams of up to three participants each can (further) develop innovative works in the field of Virtual Reality art and 360° film, accompanied by renowned international mentors.
In cooperation with Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein in the context of the North Sea Interreg project Create Converge.

VRHAM! 2019 isn’t just a place for immersive artists to showcase their work, they can win stuff to in the VRHAMMY! Awards.  As part of the festival opening the VRHAM! jury of international experts will award the winners of the categories VRHAM! MAIN PROGRAM €5,000 EUR prize money and HAMBURG EMERGING ARTISTS €2,500 prize money.

Just like last year, there will also be a range of conferences and workshops dedicated to virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) learning, with more details to be announced closer to the time.

Submissions for the open call close on 3rd March 2019, head to the official website for further terms and conditions. VRHAM! will take place from 7th to 15th June 2019, returning to Hamburg’s Oberhafenquartier. The award ceremony will be held on the opening day.
