For those after a decent virtual reality (VR) boxing title then you can’t go too far wrong with Survios’ Creed: Rise to Glory, which hit Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR in September last year. Since then, the studio has updated the experience with two additional fighters from the Creed II movie, and today several iconic characters from the Rocky franchise.
Called Rocky Legends, the update sees the addition of Adonis Creed’s father, World Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed and Rocky’s original rival-turned-friend enter the videogame. Making a formidable entrance is Rocky III‘s streetwise Southside Slugger Clubber Lang; and probably most notorious of all, Soviet juggernaut that is Ivan Drago, the Siberian Express, from Rocky IV.
Of course, no update called Rocky Legends would be complete without the great man himself. Creed: Rise to Glory already features Rocky in his older, trainer guise, but now he’s available as his younger more athletic self.
So for the first time in VR players can reenact fights from the classic movies, going toe-to-toe with these movie greats. Will the outcome follow the films or will there be a classic upset?
The ROCKY Legends update will be live on Steam, Oculus Home, and PlayStation VR today, selectable as a freeplay opponent or character for individual or PvP play. PlayStation VR players also get an added bonus, they’ll receive a new fighting ring: the spacious outdoor Walcott Bowl.
Receiving 4-stars in VRFocus‘ review, we said that: “Survios has once again done an outstanding job, with Creed: Rise to Glory helping cement the studio as one of VR’s premium content developers. You don’t have to be into boxing to enjoy this title, and for those who enjoy VR fitness it certainly ticks all the boxes.”
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Creed: Rise to Glory, reporting back with any further additions.
