As virtual reality (VR) continues to grow more developers are looking at ways of implementing the technology into their pre-existing videogames. The latest to do so is Monomi Park, partnering up with VR studio 3lb Games (creators of Space Dragon) to add a VR element to Slime Rancher.
Part of a free DLC update, Slime Rancher: VR Playground will bring the popular gameplay of the original into VR for the first time, allowing players explore unique VR playgrounds based off of popular locations.
Slime Rancher is a cute sandbox style experience where you play as as Beatrix LeBeau: a plucky, young rancher who sets out for a life a thousand light years away from Earth on the ‘Far, Far Range.’ On a strange alien world you become a slime rancher, needing to collect colourful slimes, grow crops and harvest resources.
For the VR version you’ll be able explore locations based off of the Dry Reef, Moss Blanket, and Ancient Ruins. Using the unique mechanics of VR you’ll vacuum, feed and play with the local slime inhabitants, getting up close with slimes like: pink, tabby, and phosphor. And for a more chilled out experience you can just sit down and relax in a field of flowers or take a dip in a puddle slime-filled pond.
“We are super-excited to announce that we have been working with Monomi Park on helping turn Slime Rancher into a VR experience,” said 3lb Games Co-Founder, Robin Moulder-McComb in a statement. “They’re wonderful people with an incredible game, and we’re grateful for the chance to make our own contribution to it… and to help bring it to life in VR!”
You’ll need the core Slime Rancher videogame before downloading the VR DLC which is due for release this Fall. As Slime Rancher: VR Playground has been specifically made for VR it won’t include every feature from the standard PC title.
Originally launched in August of 2017 Slime Rancher has garnered an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ reaction from Steam players, retailing for £14.99 GBP on the platform. For any further VR updates on Slime Rancher: VR Playground, keep reading VRFocus.
