A number of smaller developers have found virtual reality (VR) to be a great space for trying out new concepts and finding an audience. One such developer is Zen Studios, who have produced a number of VR titles over the past year, which are now going to be bundled together for an all-in-one VR experience for PlayStation VR users.
The Zen Studios VR Collection will feature four VR titles from Zen Studios, covering a range of genres, from pinball to first-person shooters.
The first title in the collection is voxel-styled shooter Out of Ammo. This title is a hybrid between tower defence and first-person shooter (FPS). The main campaign is a wave survival mode, in which the player takes the role of a General, building a base and commanding troops in order to defending against incoming enemies.
The next title is Pinball FX2, a VR tribute to classic arcade pinball tables. There are three core tables available called Secrets of the Deep, Epic Quest and Mars. Players will be able to play as if they were standing before a real world pinball table, even able to strategically nudge the table to get the ball to go in the right direction. The immersive aspect involves the table theming coming to life around you, such as aquatic creatures swimming around you, or a spaceship zooming overhead.
Infinite Minigolf is next, which aims to offer accurate golf physics in a cheerful and quirky setting. One of the most intriguing aspects of Infinite Minigolf is its creation tools, which lets players craft their own courses and carefully customise them, before sharing them with the wider community. These user-generated courses are available across all compatible VR platforms, PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, as well as non-VR platforms like Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
The final title is CasteStorm VR, a 2D action-strategy RPG which puts players in command of a castle. Featuring a bright and vivid cartoon art-style, players will need to properly equip their troops, which consists of regular soldiers and knights as well as fantastic creatures life griffins in order to capture a rival stronghold.
Zen Studios VR Collection is said to be heading to PlayStation VR sometime in Autumn, 2018, though an exact release date is yet to be confirmed. For future coverage on Zen Studios VR Collection, keep checking back with VRFocus.
