Tribeca Film Festival Confirms 2019 Event & Submission Dates

This April proved to be a busy one for those within the film making industry with an interest in virtual reality (VR) or other immersive technologies. The film festival season brought with it a flurry of news from filmmakers with new companies and creations both revealed for the first time. Amongst the busiest periods was that of the seventeenth annual Tribeca Film Festival, which once again went up a gear in how immersive experiences were represented.

Tribeca Film Festival 2019Now the New York based celebration of storytelling in the fields of television to VR and augmented reality (AR) to videogames and beyond, have confirmed both the dates and the deadlines for the 2019 edition. Once again, expansions are being made to the festival with one of these affecting VR, as following its debut a couple of years ago the Tribeca X Award (which celebrates experiences with an advertsing edge and that are tied to brands) will be expanded to a number of awards one of which will be for branded VR experiences.

Executive Vice President Paula Weinstein explained the expansion: “We have been impressed with the caliber of stories and creators submitting to Tribeca X to the point where we see a need to increase visibility for the work being done in branded entertainment by expanding with additional awards opportunities.”
