It was only yesterday that virtual reality (VR) title We Happy Few: Uncle Jack Live VR was announced and released for PlayStation VR but now we have some gameplay footage from the title to share. In the new adventure set within the We Happy Few world, where players take on the role of Uncle Jack’s producer and must help him put together an episode of the endlessly broadcasting propaganda show. Of course, things don’t go according to plan.
Set in a version of sixties Britain where things are not doing very well, the entire populous is under the sway of a powerful drug known as ‘Joy’ which as the name suggests, makes everything seem fantastic. We are talking flowers, sunshine and rainbows and not a single thought of anything blue or depressing. To help keep those who live in this world and the town of Wellington Wells in check, Uncle Jack’s propaganda is used to remind people to keep taking their joy. Of course in this experience, while helping Uncle Jack record a new episode, the studio building quickly falls into a sorry state as an outbreak of Downers appear and it’s up to you to put smiles back on people’s faces.
The experience will not only give players a chance to immersive themselves in the world of We Happy Few but also offers a chance to learn more about the lore and background surrounding the world and character of Uncle Jack. Don’t expect this to be a carefree walk through the park though as the themes that run through the main title are present here as well, so it will be a dark and interesting journey.
Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Compulsion Games Marketing Director Cord Smith explained the team’s goal with We Happy Few: Uncle Jack Live VR: “The original goal for Uncle Jack Live VR was to provide players with a chance to meet and work with Wellington Wells’ most prominent celebrity figure. Initially, the experience simply involved ways to manipulate a broadcast camera within a standard Uncle Jack episode, but the project evolved from watching Uncle Jack in-studio to actually building a full broadcast with him, featuring dynamic content and multiple outcomes.”
We Happy Few: Uncle Jack Live VR is available now on the PlayStation store for free, for PlayStation VR. The main videogame, We Happy Few available now on PlayStation 4 and PC. We Happy Few: Uncle Jack Live VR is an exclusive to PlayStation VR so for now it will not be available on any other headset. VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the latest on the title in the future so stay tuned for more and enjoy the gameplay footage below.
