For those who have always dreamed of taking control of an aircraft and sailing off into the wide blue yonder, there are plenty of flight simulators. However, there are few that combine with the immersion of virtual reality (VR). Pilot Rudder VR is one such experience, out now on Steam.
Pilot Rudder VR is the creation of independent developer GuraShop, who are seeking to bring the simplicity and ease-of-play of old arcade titles to the flight simulator and turn it into an immersive and intuitive experience.
Players will be able to utilise the room-scale tracking to decide on the aircraft view that best suits. There are three different game modes to choose from, each offering a different type of challenge. Players will need to manoeuvre through heavy turbulence, cope with a lack of fuel or battle cross-winds to land safely at the destination.
Conditions such as weather are procedurally generated, so players will face a different set of challenges each time they play.
Each plane available within Pilot Rudder VR is different, built with various characteristics in mind. Some planes are faster, or more acrobatic, while others are excellent at conserving fuel for long flights. These are things players will need to bear in mind.
Available game modes include:
- World Trip – Complete each leg and make sure passengers arrive safely at the destination
- Championship – Challenge other players all over the world for a position on top of the global leaderboard.
- Training – Hone your skills and have a relaxing time with no time limits to worry about.
- Customisation – Earn in-came cash and unlock new colours and features for your plane.
Pilot Rudder VR is available on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, priced at £7.19 (GBP). Further information can be found on the Steam Store page. For future coverage of new and upcoming VR projects, keep checking back with VRFocus.
