As Gamescom 2018 kicks off developer Outerloop Games have just announced a new virtual reality (VR) title for the PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD) entitled Falcon Age. This new title will see players take on the role of Ara where they must learn to hunt, gather and fight to reclaim her cultural legacy in the lost art of falcon hunting against a force of automated colonizers.
Falcon Age is a first-person falcon-hunting action adventure title in which players find themselves on a dying colony planet that has been turned into a desert by machine invaders. With their culture destroyed and resources depleted, it looks like all hope is lost. That is until the two most unlikely of friends show up ready to help take on the invaders and return life back to the planet.
Talking on the PlayStation Blog, Chandana Ekanayake Creative Director at Outerloop Games talks about the plot of the title by saying: “Play as Ara, who’s been wrongfully thrown in jail for a minor infraction. While she awaits her fate in a lonely cell, she passes the time by befriending a young falcon. Together, they escape and set off on an adventure to help the resistance reclaim their freedom and drive off the invaders.”
From here players will need to master their skills of hunting, gathering and fighting in order to survive in this strange land while bonding with your falcon and helping the resistance take victory. All of this is made possible thanks to the power of the PlayStation VR HMD and Move Controllers or a DualShock 4 controller. Players will be able to reach out to call their Falcon to them and preform a range of actions with the immersive motion controls on offer. The title is also playable without VR with standard first-person controls making it accessible to everyone.
Players who are interested in seeing gameplay of Falcon Age will not have to wait long as the team will be showcasing it at the upcoming PAX Prime convention. As for the full release, Falcon Age will be releasing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR in 2019.
