NVIDIA Unveil New Line of Quadro GTX Graphics Cards

Three new Quadro GTX cards have been announced by NVIDIA at SIGGRAPH 2018.

Though most of the rumours and speculation around NVIDIA recently has concerned its alleged upcoming new line of GeForce consumer graphics cards, the company is has announced the launch of a new line of its Quadro RTX series of graphics cards.

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX series of cards are designed for user by designers, artists and animators and other creative professionals who might be working in areas such as computer animation or videogame design.

According to Bob Pette, the Vice President of Professional Visualisation at NVIDIA, the new Quadro GTX graphics cars are the first commercially available cards with real-time ray tracing capability.

During a briefing on the new GPU line, Pette said: “When I joined this business twenty years ago, real-time ray tracing was the holy grain of computer graphics. With these cards, that has been achieved.”

Three new cards were announced, the Quadro RTX 8000, 600 and 5000. All of which were running on the new Turing Architecture, the successor the NVIDIA’s existing Pascal architecture. The Turning architecture supports artificial intelligence capabilities, has dedicated ray tracing cores, and new creative tools powered by neural networks. On-card RAM is supplied by the new Samsung GDR6 RAM, which supplies high-bandwidth capability.

Also built into the Quadro GTX cards is hardware support for the recently announced VirtualLink standard. This standard was revealed recently by a consortium of companies which included NVIDIA. Its purpose is to simply the connection of the next generation of virtual reality (VR) hardware by allowing VR headsets to be connected to PC using a single high-capacity USB-C cable.

NVIDIA also announced a new reference design called the Quadro RTX Server, a type of GPU designed specifically for use in data centers and server farms.
