New Astro Bot: Rescue Mission Japanese Trailer Features Producer Interview

Sony Japan Studio’s upcoming virtual reality (VR) title Astro Bot: Rescue Mission has received a new trailer on the offical PlayStation Japan YouTube channel which features Creative Director and Producer Nicolas Doucet talking about the upcoming title. The PlayStation VR title is releasing this October and the new trailer is a good refresh on some of the feature that will be present in fun adventure title.

As Doucet explains in the interview, Astro is actually the captain of a ship which after something happens to their ship in space sees their crew lost around the surface of the planet. This is where the player comes in, joining forces with the cute robot captain to help find their missing crew and save the day. To do this players will not only be controlling Astro Bot via the DualShock 4 controller but will also be present in the game world themselves. This means that, thanks to the immersive power of VR, they can interact with the world just by controller and PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD).

Players can utilize a number of different gadgets to complete levels and even headbutt objects within the environment by moving their head. These, along with controlling the little captain, will all work together to get players a unique experience. On top of that, another element of Astro Bot: Rescue Mission that Doucet draws attention to in the interview is the scale of things that unfold. Thanks to the immersive power of VR the player is able to be right besides some truly massive events, such as watching Astro run up the arm of a giant robot atop the clouds.

“Every now and again you have a job as a character – you exist in that world to and its very much teamwork in fact.” Doucet explained in our interview with him from E3 2018. He continued: “At key moments we punctuate the game with moments of interaction by using the controller such as using your shrunken to make platforms or the hock shot to make rope for that character to climb.”

Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is releasing on October 2nd, 2018 and be available both physically and digitally for $39.99 (USD). Those who pre-order the videogame from the PlayStation Store will receive: 4 Astro Boy Avatars (Instant Reward), Astro Bot: Rescue Mission Dynamic Theme, and the Astro Bot: Rescue Mission full digital soundtrack.
