Metastage Announced as First US Partner for Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Capture Studios
This is in addition to Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Capture Studio at its Redmond office.
Companies are employing various techniques to make immersive content even more realistic, especially when it comes to bringing humans, animals and other dynamic objects into their experiences. Today, mixed reality (MR) studio, Metastage has been revealed as the first US partner for Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Capture Studios, opening its doors to creators in Los Angeles, California.
Equipped to create lifelike volumetric capture, the Metastage studio can bring the power of human performance to the digital world with its MR capture and production methods, giving creators the best technology for realistic virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and holographic experiences.
“Metastage is capturing incredible performances that can be viewed as if the person were standing right in front of you,” says Christina Heller, CEO of Metastage in a statement. “Whether using a VR or AR headset, a 2D screen or simply on a mobile phone, instinct kicks in and you may find yourself trying to reach out to touch them, like many of us have.”
Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Capture process is a comprehensive volumetric capture solution leveraging more than one hundred 12-megapixel capable machine vision cameras with the ability to capture multiple people or objects and output a high-quality 3D asset that maintains its fidelity even as a tiny compressed file.
Creating content that features the full range of human expressions is seen as one of the key factors for making VR, AR and MR experiences even more engaging, adding to that feeling of presence that so many developers are striving for. As the company explains: “Metastage’s mission is to curate MR solutions and make them accessible, reliably, so that creators from any field can place incredibly realistic people and objects into their immersive experiences with captures that feel authentic to the real thing.”
While this is a first for the US, Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Capture Studio has already been rolled out in the UK by Hammerhead VR and Digital Catapult. The companies collaborated on their Dimension Studio which opened back in 2017. VRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest MR technologies and solutions, reporting back with any further updates.
