Cuseum Releases Data on AR Museum Experience Survey
Almost all respondents to a survey said that AR improved the museum experience.
As an increasing number of museums, art galleries and other visitor attractions embrace immersive technology like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), there are still questions on exactly what impact these new technologies have. Start-up company Cuseum is aiming to answer these questions with the release of the results of its Museum Experience survey.
Cuseum says it is interested in how technology impacts how museums and other cultural attractions engage with visitors, and has noted how the rise in immersive technology such as AR has changed the dynamic between the audience and the attractions.
Cuseum is an American Start-up company that specialises in creating digital products for museums and other public attractions. One of its main contributions has been in AR, where the company has contributed AR to various projects in the museum sector.
In order to measure how the public is reacting to the use of AR and other immersive technologies in museums and art galleries, the company conducted an on-site survey. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the impact of mobile technology, including AR, and how that affects the visitor experience.
Visitors were asked to use an AR-based app and then answer a series of questions about their experience. 103 visitors were surveyed, with almost all of the participants agreeing that AR enhanced their experience of the museum.
Further results included the following:
- 9 out of 10 responded that mobile technology made it easier to access information.
- 91% said it is an exciting new way to access information.
- 87% claimed that it enhanced their experience, and they wish all museums had this technology.
- 85% would recommend this experience to a friend.
Cuseum says that it expects the smartphone to remain the primary way in which users experience AR content for the near future, and they are looking into further ways to expand and enhance the visitor experience. Further information on this research can be found on the Cuseum website.
