This Week In VR Sport: NextVR Expands Sports Offering And The 49ers Look To AR

As the heat seems to level out it is time for another entry of This Week In VR Sport. Every week VRFocus brings you a number of sports and eSports related virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) stories. This past week has seen plenty of exciting news from NextVR as the company expands their sports offerings including highlights of the Wimbledon finals. Elsewhere the San Francisco 49ers have teamed up with MYXR to offer new AR experiences to fans and COPA90 is collaborating with NextVR.

NextVR for a second year have partnered with Wimbledon to produce VR highlights of the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Finals. This year, thanks to the increased resolution quality viewers will be able to get closer to the action on Centre Court like never before. This has been made possible thanks to NextVR’s proprietary VR cameras which were placed behind the baseline to give fans a front row vantage point to experience the matches. Once more, to keep to tradition, NextVR wrapped the 3D stereoscopic cameras in the signature Wimbledon green to blend into Centre Court.
Viewers will be able to enjoy the Wimbledon Ladies’ Single Finals between Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams and the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Single Finals featuring Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson directly within the NextVR application.
Fans can download the free NextVR application from a number of different store fronts for platforms including Oculus Go, PlayStation VR, HTC Vive Pro, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Gear VR, and Google Daydream.

San Francisco 49ers and MYXR Join Forces For New AR Partnership

The San Francisco 49ers have announced a new multi-year relationship with MYXR at the team’s offical AR partner. Through this new first-of-its-kind partnership, MYXR’s AR platform will significantly expand the 49ers fan experience at the Levi’s Stadium and the team’s digital channels by building on the team’s history to deliver innovative AR offerings for fans.

“Our organization prides itself on aligning with corporate partners with cutting-edge technologies that enhance fan engagement,” said Brent Schoeb, 49ers Vice President of Corporate Partnerships. “We look forward to collaborating with MYXR on customized AR experiences using their MYXR Experience Platform to enhance our game days at Levi’s Stadium and year-round on our team digital channels.”

The multi-year strategic partnership will enable the 49ers to improve on its ground-breaking uses of AR from the last two years and build a wider pool of experiences for fans to enjoy. To help celebrate the team’s 70 anniversary in 2016, the 49ers distributed AR trading cards to fans at home games that brought historic movements from the team to life with the use of a mobile phone. Last year, the team created a similar application with souvenir collector’s cups available at the team’s in-stadium convenience store. Now with this new partnership, the sky is the limit for what the 49ers will be able to create.

NextVR and COPA90 Annouce Content Partnership

NextVR have been busy this week at the company announces a new expansive partnership with COPA90, a global multi-platform soccer media business to create and distribute soccer content to fans around the world. This new addition to NextVR’s portfolio of content will complement all the in-game action that the application provides.

The two will collaboarate on a wide-range of soccer events, tournamenets and content projects, including the International Champions Cup. To kick off the partnership, COPA90 was the presenting VR sponsor of NextVR’s live broadcast of the International Champions Cup that took place eariler this week with AC Milan facing off agasint Manchester United. Fans had the chance to be fully immersed within the match and feel like they were really on the pitch thanks to NextVR’s impressive technology.

COPA90 will also be getting a dedicated channel within the NextVR application and become the ultimate destination for soccer fans in VR. This will feature behind-the-scenes access with US Soccer’s biggest star, Christian Pulisic – as COPA90 collaborated with Pulisic, the Chicago Cubs, and Borussia Dortmund prior to their ICC match with Manchester City game at Soldier Field.
