Rec Room Introduces Rec Royale Squads Mode In New Update

As virtual reality (VR) has sought to shed its reputation for being an anti-social hobby, Rec Room has become one of the more popular ‘social gathering places’ for VR enthusiasts. The developers have encouraged this by pushing out regular updates, the latest of which adds in the ‘Rec Royale Squads Mode’ among other new features.

Rec Room introduced its own battle royale mode into the title back in May, and the new update allows for up to three people to team up to take on the challenges on Frontier Island.

The new update means that ‘Solo’ mode for Rec Royale is currently disabled, so users will need to team up to participate in Rec Royale, though the team at developers Against Gravity are planning to add solos mode back in at a later date.

Other new features introduced in the update specifically for Rec Royale includes a new radio voice chat which lets you stay in touch with your squad from anywhere on the map. This will automatically activate when you are far enough away from your teammates.

A revive mechanic has been introduced which lets players revive a KO’d teammate, though doing so will leave you vulnerable. Sprinting has also been fine-tuned to work better on all platforms for a smoother experience.

The chat system can now support group chats, so groups of people can stay in touch. The group chats work similarly to one-to-one chats and can work from rec.net to the game and vice-versa. Chat messages on rec.net are also time-stamped. Saved outfits will now include skin, hair colour and facial features, letting users save an entire appearance.

The new update will also let any registered user in good moderation standing get access to Screen Mode. This feature is undergoing testing, so the development team are keen to get feedback on user experiences with Screen Mode.
