Magic: The Gathering is one of the most popular collectible card games (CCG) that is available on the market at the minute and has been for some years. Now, thanks to the power of augmented reality (AR) technology players will be able to experience the card game like never before all thanks to the work of one developer.
As reported by Next Reality, the MTG Manager application for mobile devices allows players to bring their card collection to life by scanning them using their devices camera. This will then augment the cards and display information such as prices, game statistics and even animate the artwork on select cards.
The MTG Manager also allows user a way to build a deck and play out the cost of each card thanks to its database of prices. Anyone who has ever looked up the prices of cards will know that it is a time consuming process so having the flexibility to simply scan a card and find all the requires information is a massive time saver.
The developer of the application, BigAR, is also working on new features for the MTG Manager app which would not only expand the current feature set and see more cards animated but would also translate them in real-time. This can be helpful for those who have the odd card which is not in their native language and want to check the rules to make sure their friend is not cheating.
Though the animated artwork is not fully avaiable on the app just yet, the other AR features are already live. Thanks to ARKit and ARCore, a wide number of supported iOS and Android devices will be able to enjoy AR features. BigAR are hard at work bringing the other features to release and have released a video which you can view below that explores some of these future updates, including the card translation.
