Baobab Studios, the creators of the popular and successful Aseroids! and Invasion!, have announced that their upcoming virtual reality (VR) animated film, Crow: The Legend, will be premiering at La Biennale Di Venezia as part of the Venice VR showcase.
Crow: The Legend is inspired by the origin of the crow, played by John Legend, who is a brilliantly plumbed bird who is nominated by his fellow animals to bring warmth back to a world stuck in an endless winter. His journey is rewarded and he carries the gift of fire back to his fellow animals in his beak however, in doing so he sacrifices what is most dear to him.
The film will also star the voice talents of Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One) and Liza Koshy (Hulu’s Freakish) along with the likes of Sarah Eagle. The film is promoting Native American-inspired storytelling and is using Native Americans in their voice cast to help support the project and bring it to life.
“Crow: The Legend is inspired by long-told Native American folklore, but brought to life in 21st-century ways. With its focus on how we can all do better for the world around us, I was honored to participate,” said Eagle Heart, CEO, Native Americans in Philanthropy. “This film is a generous gift to the world, sharing the worldview of indigenous peoples through virtual reality. And we look forward to exciting partnerships to come, particularly those focused on youth and mentorship, something to which Baobab and our philanthropy are both passionately committed.”
The premiere will be the first time Crow: The Legend has been seen beyond some stills and concept art. If Baobab Studios’ past work is to be a guide as to the quality of the film then viewers can expect a high quality film that will be beautiful and full of emotions. The premiere will be happening from August 29th, 2018 through to September 8th, 2018 and details on the event and showing can be found on the events website.
VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the latest on Crow: The Legend and Baobab Studios in the future so stay tuned for more.
