If you have ever wished to wield a cutlass and flintlock pistol and sail the seven seas as a fearsome pirate, then Virtual Pirate VR might be the title for you, having been recently released on to Steam by developers Mammossix Co.
Virtual Pirate VR is an arcade-styled virtual reality (VR) title that has been launched into Steam Early Access.
The title lets the player take on the role of a pirate, using a pistol and cutlass you take on the enemy in single player story mode, arcade mode or multiplayer. Arcade mode is an endless mode with steadily increasing difficulty. Single player story mode involves five different stages, with the last stage featuring a boss fight against a giant kraken.
Multiplayer is a team battle style multiplayer, where players can gather their friends in a multiplayer lobby, or enter a room to find an opponent to battle against. Up to six players can engage in a team battle at once.
To fight, you are armed with a pistol, which can kill at a distance, and even provide a one-shot kill if you manage to make a head shot. The cutlass is a short-range weapon which can act as attack and defence to block attacks.
Virtual Pirate VR is currently in Early Access, and the developers are planning on continuing to polish the title for another two to three months to gather user feedback, which will form the basis of the direction the team will take when adding updates and new features.
The full version of Virtual Pirate VR will add additional difficulty modes and achievement rewards for the solo story mode and additional polishing will be done on the multiplayer mode in response to user feedback.
Virtual Pirate VR is available on Steam for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality devices. It is currently priced at £7.97 (GBP), a 30% launch discount on the usual price of £11.39. Further information can be found on the Steam store page.
