The virtual reality title is leaving Japan and heading to VRLA.

Fans of the ever popular Space Channel 5 will be happy to know that the virtual reality (VR) title which was shown in Japan last year is making its way to the West. Titled Space Channel 5 VR: Ukiuki Viewing Show in Japan, the appearance will see a renaming to Space Channel 5 VR: Kind Funky News Flash!

Originally released on the Dreamcast back in 1999 the title quickly became a cult classic. With its candy-colour design, accessible rhythm base gameplay and a catchy soundtrack, it had the makings of a landmark title from day one and saw a sequel released in 2002. A demo of the VR release was shown during the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2016, with a further appearance earlier this year. Now it has been confirmed that at least one Western audience will get to experience the return of Ulala for themselves – at VRLA 2018.

Beyond this there is are no details as to any official release, though tantalisingly it seems the possibility is a little closer. With the press release for the announcement listing HTC Vive as the hardware for the ‘VR arcade’ version being shown at the event. whilst “Game Hardware for Console Version” is listed at “TBD” – to be determined.

In Space Channel 5 players will need to use all their sick dancing moves in order to keep the music flowing and lead the heroin Ulala on a mission to protect Earth against invading aliens. The more poses you strike, the more viewer ratings you get and with the more ratings, the better chance at victory you have.
