Modern Dating and VR Combine in VR Playhouse’s new Series “First Person”

The series will launch today across multiple platforms.

It’s the 14th February so you know what that means, Valentines Day. Whether you love it or loath it, it’s the one day every year that you’re either inundated with romance or just reminded of it. So its quite apt that virtual reality (VR) studio VR Playhouse has chosen today to launch its next immersive project, First Person,  a 360-degree series focused on modern-age relationships and dating.

Available across a range of virtual reality (VR) platforms and headsets, the series puts you into the first-person perspective of a man re-entering the dating scene after a painful divorce. Viewers will feel the palpable awkwardness of those first dates, the tremulous excitement as love blooms and everything in between, experiencing not only what is being seen by the main character, but also what he’s feeling and thinking.

The VR Playhouse team approached First Person with an immersive theater perspective. Actors were given loose plot guidelines and were coached to improvise a bulk of the scenes, resulting in dynamic and natural performances that allow viewers to have an authentic sense that they are peering into someone’s life.

The four part series will be available via the First Person app today, found for free on Viveport, Steam, Google Daydream and Oculus platforms, with the app also providing users with automatic access to all future seasons and episodes. All episodes will also be available on YouTube 360, Facebook 360, Littlestar and Vimeo.

VR Playhouse has crafted a wide range of immersive entertainment experiences, with pieces selected for the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW and Cannes Film Festival. Titles include The Surrogatepsychedelic music video Not Above That, and La Fuerza Imprevista in collaboration with Jaunt. The studio has also collaborated with the likes of Stan Lee, Ken Burns, George Clooney, the Lion King on Broadway, YouTube, Mountain Dew, Toyota, Jack In The Box, Mercedes and Boost Mobile, among numerous others.
