Zombie Hunting Comes to Location-Based VR With Arizona Sunshine
The universe of the undead grows...
One of the most popular first-person shooters (FPS) for virtual reality (VR) headsets is zombie slayer Arizona Sunshine from Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive. Today, the developers have announced that work has begun on a new version of Arizona Sunshine, specifically for location-based VR centres.
As it’s CES 2018 this week, in conjunction with HTC Vive the new location-based version will be playable on the headset manufacturers stand. This will allow up to four players to immerse themselves in the Arizona Sunshine universe, battling hordes zombies together.
“Arizona Sunshine has consistently topped the list of most played games at VR arcades,” says Richard Stitselaar, Managing Director at Vertigo Games in a statement. “We strongly believe Arizona Sunshine will again be a must-play in this new, exciting LBVR space. Who doesn’t want to brave the zombie apocalypse alongside their friends in an even more immersive experience than home VR offers?”
“Vertigo’s forward-looking approach to the arcade business and implementing technology such as the Vive Tracker, have pushed the expectations for VR title forward,” said Daniel O’Brien, GM US, Vive. “We’re excited for this unveil to showcase all that’s possible on Vive.”
Location-based VR is seen as one of the best ways of getting the technology into the hands of the public without a big upfront cost. Theme parks have been experimenting with mobile VR on their rides, while companies like The VOID are taking it to the next level with hyper-reality experiences like Ghostbusters: Dimension and Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire. Neither Vertigo Games or HTC Vive have revealed when this new version of Arizona Sunshine will be rolled out to VR centres, or which locations these might be in.
If you’ve not yet played Arizona Sunshine the title supports Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, offering both a single-player campaign and multiplayer modes. The most recent update saw two-handed guns being added to the roster, adding a greater range of firepower to proceedings. As further details on the videogame are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.
