Fallout 4 VR to Launch on Monday 11th for HTC Vive

The last few weeks have seen some big virtual reality (VR) releases from Bethesda, with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR and DOOM VFR arriving on PlayStation VR and HTC Vive/PlayStation VR respectively. Yet the biggest release of 2017 is still to come, with Fallout 4 VR scheduled for release next week. In an announcement today Bethesda has revealed it’ll launch the title a day earlier than expected.

Originally Fallout 4 VR was due to arrive for HTC Vive on 12 December, worldwide. Now the studio has revealed it’ll be available everywhere on Monday, December 11 at 7 PM EST for the HTC Vive. That’s works out at 4pm PST for gamers on the west coast of North America, but for those in the UK it’ll still be Tuesday, 12th, at midnight.

Additionally, Bethesda has released the system specifications to run Fallout 4 VR, and needless to say they are fairly beefy, with the minimum recommended graphics card being a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 / AMD RX Vega 56. Meaning that those running on lower recommended specs like the GTX 970 may struggle to run the open world behemoth.

System Specs

  • OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
  • Processor: CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 / AMD RX Vega 56 or better
  • Storage: 30 GB available space

  • OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
  • Processor: CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD RX Vega 64
  • Storage: 30 GB available space

Bethesda currently only lists HTC Vive as the supporting headset so it’ll be interesting to see if there’s a day one update from either the studio or Valve for Oculus Rift support, just like DOOM VFR had. This is due to the fact that any SteamVR compatible title should work with a head-mounted display (HMD) that also supports SteamVR – although as proven that’s not always the case.

If that happens VRFocus will let you know, alongside any other announcements.
