Earlier this year, Pixonic launched a virtual reality (VR) iteration of its successful mobile phone franchise War Robots. Now the developers are hoping to expand upon War Robots VR: The Skirmish by launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund an expanded VR title.
War Robots VR: The Skirmish was released on for free Steam for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and was intended to act as a teaser for a bigger videogame. A short shooter set in the same universe as the smartphone titles in the War Robots franchise, War Robots VR: The Skirmish puts users in the cockpit of a giant mecha in the midst of an endless global conflict.
The Kickstarter campaign hopes to gather funding to produce a much bigger videogame, introducing the ability to take on other players in online battles, including options such as customisation, team fights, deathmatches and a larger variety of giant robots, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. The developers are hoping to create a strategic PvP VR experience where players will need to carefully consider their robot’s stats and carefully choose attack windows.
Funding tiers for the campaign range from the $25 (USD) Early Bird tier, which will get backers access to a digital download of the title upon release, along with a 30-day premium pass for the War Robots smartphone videogame and 500 gold for War Robots Mobile. Other tiers include the $150 tier which gives users a 120-day premium and 1500 gold for War Robots mobile, as well as a War Robots VR t-shirt, beta access to War Robots VR and exclusive skins and weapons for War Robots mobile and the backer’s name listed in the War Robots VR credits. The highest tier, at $5000, will get the backer a full year’s premium access to War Robots mobile, as well as beta access to War Robots VR and other in-game items listed in lower tiers, a War Robots VR leather notebook, hoodie and dog tags and a figurine and their name visible on War Robots VR in-game maps.
Pixonic are hoping to raise $130,000 in funding and if the campaign is successful, are hoping to launch War Robots VR in March 2018.
