Early in October VRFocus reported on developer Wolf & Wood announcing that its multi-chapter horror experience The Exorcist: Legion VR would see the first two chapters launch prior to Halloween. That didn’t occur with the studio saying on Steam: “To ensure that both chapters are of the highest quality when released, we need to push them both back just a little bit.” Today, Wolf & Wood – and publisher Funtrain – have announced a new simultaneous release date for chapter 1 and 2, 22nd November, 2017.
The Exorcist: Legion VR has been based on the events of The Exorcist III, with players able to experience a stand-alone story untold in the movies across five chapters. The first two are now titled: Chapter 1: First Rites and Chapter 2: Idle Hands. The title is a detective experience of sorts, in chapter one players have to investigate the grisly murder of a priest, whilst learning the dangerous art of exorcism.
Each episode will then feature a different demonic entity, and arm players with a different weapon to stop it. In Chapter 2: Idle Hands players will be introduced to an ex-schoolteacher who seems to have lost her mind and is set upon by some unseen force.
While both chapters will be available on the same day, Chapter 1: First Rites will launch with a 20 percent discount, dropping the price from $4.99 down to $3.99. Chapter 2: Idle Hands will be the standard price of $4.99. Chapters 3 – 5 will then be released in turn shorty after – which previously was one a month – although the studio hasn’t confirmed any dates just yet.
“This franchise deserves to be done right and the only way to have a truly definitive experience for such a story is in virtual reality,” said Douglas Nabors, CEO of Fun Train in a statement. “Playing a non-VR horror game is one thing when you’re safely behind a monitor. But, when you’re living the horror up close and personal, The Exorcist: Legion VR will resonate with you for years to come.”
