Yesterday Google officially announced its new Pixel 2 smartphones and a revised Daydream View headset. Now the company has unveiled a new immersive series created in collaboration with its virtual reality (VR) team and Discovery VR, Discovery TRVLR.
The 38-episode series will launch on Friday, 3rd November exclusively on YouTube and DiscoveryVR.com and via the Discovery VR app. The content explores the culture of locals in every corner of the globe across all seven continents: North America, South America, Asia, Australia, Africa, Antarctica and Europe, documenting mind-blowing rituals, obscure traditions and life-threatening quests.
The series will be split into seven chapters, one for each continent, consisting of six episodes each, while the chapter for Antarctica features two episodes.
“Discovery’s viewers look to us for innovation and expect to be taken places that satisfy their desire for exploration and adventure,” said Rebecca Howard, SVP Emerging Platforms and Partnerships, Discovery VR in a statement. “Like Discovery, Google’s VR team shares a passion for VR storytelling and we are thrilled to partner with them on ‘Discovery TRVLR,’ our most ambitious endeavor to date.”
Discovery TRVLR can be experienced in VR with the new Google Daydream View headset as well as with Cardboard. The series can also be viewed through the web, and with Android and iOS phones.
