Obscura Release Date Creeps Forward

Indie developer Michael Hegemann appears to have stepped on the gas this summer, as his debut virtual reality (VR) videogame, Obscura, will now launch months ahead of the previously promised release date. Obscura will debut on Steam, compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Oculus Touch, next week.

Capitalising on the deep immersion that VR can offer, Obscura eschews traditional action for a more passive experience. Compared to the likes of theBlu and Everest by Hegemann, Obscura will allow the player to progress at their own pace.

“The humble goal is to be the definitive fear-and-scare simulation in VR, with high comfort and polish, so you can focus on the atmosphere, without worrying about motion sickness or complicated controls,” stated Hegemann in an e-mail to VRFocus. “It is a very personal project, made with alot of passion by a single developer, fully self funded. Dedicated to fans of puristic horror and users that are in for a good thrill. Joining together with friends and watch each other get scared is very very fun and highly recommended, once you faced the witch alone. [sic]”

Obscura will be available via Steam, compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Oculus Touch, from 28th July 2017. No price point has yet been confirmed for the videogame, but VRFocus will be bringing you more details in due course.
