Most zombie stories have the protagonists shooting down the flesh-eating undead, or running away from them. Upcoming virtual reality (VR) mini-series The Zombie Autopsies explores a different facet as it tells the story of the zombie apocalypse from the perspective of doctors desperately searching for a cure.
Based on a book by author Dr. Steven Schlozman called The Zombie Autopsies: Secret Notes from the Apocalypse, The Zombie Autopsies follows the story of a medical team who have been sent to a remote island to try and search for a cure to the zombie plague that is overtaking the planet. Trying to use a radical theory of forensics to uncover the truth behind the plague and find a cure before human life is wiped out. The mini-series will follow multiple points-of-view around the world to watch the unfolding disaster.
The project is being undertaken by 44 Blue Productions, who have previously worked on TV series such as Spike TV’s Deadliest Warrior, along with MSNBC show Lockup and its spin-offs. The Zombie Autopsies is also being made in partnership with VR content creators Ovrture.
“We are absolutely captivated by The Zombie Autopsies and know these subject matters will resonate with today’s modern audiences,” said Stephanie Drachkovitch, president and co-founder of 44 Blue Productions. “The role culture, society and technology have on the evolution of madness in the human psyche is extremely timely, while virtual reality is primed for the next long-form thriller.”
A release date for The Zombie Autopsies has yet to be confirmed, nor is it known which platform the mini-series is to be released on.
