If you just can’t get enough of playing chess in a dank atmosphere, then get ready to strap yourself back into your Gear VR, because Dungeon Chess, the Dungeons & Dragons chess spin-off, is available right now. Dungeon Chess is the first, but not the last, of videogames planned in a partnership between developer Experiment 7 and tabletop giants Wizards of the Coast.
We’ve got brand new screenshots of Dungeon Chess in action below, where you can see battle being done on the chess board as the player looks over it in virtual reality (VR) in real-time. Dungeon Chess was recently announced for PlayStation VR, in addition to being available on Gear VR and Oculus Rift.
The videogame will see players use familiar Dungeons & Dragons characters and monsters on the chess board, something important to Creative Director and Experiment 7 Co-Founder Geoffrey Zatkin; “We’re using iconic D&D creatures to bring fantasy and wonder to the classic strategy game of chess, while taking great care to stay true to D&D lore, implement robust chess gameplay, and provide a high-quality user experience. We believe this commitment will make Dungeon Chess enjoyable for chess fans, D&D enthusiasts, and the VR community in general.”
Gear VR owners can put on their head-mounted display (HMD) and plug their phone in to download Dungeon Chess right now. For more on the game, see our screenshot gallery below.
