VRFocus has reported countless times on the combination of virtual reality (VR) and education and now to teach kids about all sorts of different animals there’s The Feature Creature, a mixture of animated series and VR experience.
The actual show has been created by kids TV producer Daniel Slight of Fandango Productions and Dave Garbett of Jamba Entertainment, with 52, 2.5 minute animated episodes set to air. Each of these will take viewers on a comedic journey to see amazing creatures in its natural environment whilst learning plenty of facts along the way.
As part of the project the creators have decided to build a VR element, making each show available as an immersive experience for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR with 360-degree videos for Samsung Gear VR. AsThe Feature Creature utilises Epic Games’ Unreal Engine users can either sit back and watch the episode, or use its interactivity to change the size of the world should a T-rex suddenly feel to big and menacing.
At present the VR functionality is still in beta form and only available for Oculus Rift. For those that want to try it out head here to download the content. The team does suggest using a fairly powerful graphics card for the experience, such as an Nvivdia Geforce GTX 1070 or 1080. Work is still ongoing to optimise the content for lower specification cards.
