A few weeks ago the team behind SUPERHOT VR released a teasing tweet showing just a logo, the HTC Vive logo to be precise, without going into any further details. That wait is almost over with the studio finally confirming a release date for SUPERHOT VR, 25th May 2017.
Originally an exclusive release for Oculus Rift and Touch, SUPERHOT VR will launch on Steam for both headsets. The release will include the SUPERHOT Forever update that launched in March. That saw the addition of 20+ hours of new replayable challenges, achievements and hardcore endless levels. Challenges include the 10-minute challenge, which as the name states requires players to complete the title in 10 minutes, trying to complete the game without shooting, Headshots only, make sure enemies are hit right between the eyes (if they had any); Time Trial, racing against best scores in both in-game time (slowed down) and real-time; Don’t Shoot, for those that love melee combat; Hardcore Mode, where enemies are faster and players reaction time is reduced; and Don’t Die, with death taking players back to the start of the entire game.
If you’ve been living under a rock and missed all of VRFocus’ SUPERHOT VR coverage, the title is essentially a first-person shooter (FPS) with the player able to use melee weapons or just their fists to complete each level. There’s just one small cravat – and what makes the whole videogame unique – is that everything runs in slow motion when you’re stationary. Move to grab a gun and time will start to speed up. See a bullet or bullets coming your way, then stay still to workout the best course of action so you don’t get shot. Get hit and you return to the last checkpoint.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of SUPERHOT VR, reporting back with the latest updates.
