From today users of the Oculus Rift will be able to join the continuing mission in Star Trek: Bridge Crew as the title is getting an official Oculus Rift launch to join the versions already available on PlayStation VR and HTC Vive.
Star Trek: Bridge Crew allows users to play solo as the captain of the new starship USS Aegis or the classic and iconic USS Enterprise NCC-1701, which has been faithfully recreated from Star Trek: The Original Series. Alternatively, players can choose co-operative multiplayer and take a position as engineer or science officer.
The development team at Red Storm Entertainment and Ubisoft have confirmed that cross-platform multiplayer will be available, so users on the PlayStation VR will be able to play along with friends on HTC Vive or Oculus Rift by logging in to Ubisoft’s uPlay platform.
The title has integrated hand-tracking and full-body avatars along with real-time lip-sync to create the most immersive environment possible. IBM Watson interactive speech and cognitive features have also been integrated, so players can interact naturally with NPC crew members.
Red Storm Entertainment creative director David Votypka had this to say: “It’s a dream project in so many ways. The chance to not only work with one of the biggest brands in entertainment, but to bring it to fans in VR for the first time ever is really special.
And the Star Trek brand is a perfect fit for VR—specifically social VR, which is what we’ve focused on at Red Storm. The natural synergy between brand, game concept, and technology is a critical aspect that empowered us to make both a compelling Star Trek game and an engaging VR experience.”
Star Trek: Bridge Crew is available now via the Oculus Store for £39.99 (GBP).
