The ‘Endless Runner’ genre truly found its calling on mobile, with videogame titles such as Temple Run, Jetpack Joyride and Sonic Dash to name but three. With each giving their own spin on things.
Whilst the endless runner genre might cause you a bit of stress and worry and tax out your hand-eye co-ordination that is still the limit of its physical taxation. You yourself aren’t running and jumping, dodging and weaving. For a start running and jumping wouldn’t be all that practical. But what about the dodging and weaving? What if the endless runner went first person? That is where the Chinese virtual reality (VR) videogame Treasure Hunter: Temple hopes to come in.
Your task is simple: collect as many coins as possible whilst your character runs through the temple, doing your best to avoid the spinning blades, spike walls and other traps that litter the path ahead. You’ll need to use skill and judgement (as well as your reach) to collect the treasures of the temple and the only way you’re going to be able to do that is to get active. The title is currently on Steam Greenlight, and whilst details on the product page aren’t all that clear, the trailer – visible below – does confirm it is for the HTC Vive. The trailer also confirms some degree of character customisation with the ability to choose an appropriate set of ‘hands’.
VRFocus will bring you more news on VR videogames throughout the week.
