Real-time strategy (RTS) title Cosmic Trip got a fair amount of critical praise when it was released for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on Steam Early Access. The developers at Funkatronic Labs have now confirmed not only the date for the full release, but also that a digital deluxe edition will also be available.
The upcoming Digital Deluxe Edition will be made available alongside the vanilla release and will contain an artbook and soundtrack. Digital versions of the artbook and soundtrack will also be available to by separately. Cosmic Trip has received a great deal of attention since it went into Early Access in June 2016, including winning an award for Best Visual Design at the 2016 VR core Awards. The design of the title is heavily inspired by the 60s era for a fairly unique look.
Developers at indie studio Funkatronic Labs say they used feedback from players on Early Access to tweak the game to create a full-featured virtual reality (VR) RTS videogame. The gameplay will be familiar to players of RTS titles from years past, giving the player control of an army of robots to gather resources and battle enemy forces, though Cosmic Trip uses tracked motion controllers instead of the mouse and keyboard set up that will be familiar to players of RTS titles such as Starcraft and Command and Conquer.
“We can’t thank our passionate community of players enough for helping us create a game that we are incredibly proud of,” said Funktronic Labs Co-Founder Eddie Lee. “Making a fully featured real-time strategy game in VR is only possibly because of the excellent feedback we’ve received during our time in Early Access.”
The full release of Cosmic Trip will be available on 24th May 2017. Further information can be found on the official Steam page.
