Half-Life 2 was a phenomenally popular game that practically re-invented the first-person shooter (FPS) genre when it was launched back in 2004. Seventeen years on, and a group of enterprising fans of the videogame have brought Half-Life 2 into virtual reality (VR).
The developers working on the mod have released a brief teaser showing what can be expected when the mod is finally available. The small fan team have been working on the project for approximately 4-5 years. Their current aim is to get the stable build of the mod on to Steam Greenlight. Some users on Reddit questioned why it was necessary to go through Greenlight, and the development team replied that they had tried to contact Valve directly to no avail.
Players of Half-Life 2 who wish to play the mod upon launch will need the videogame on Steam with both episodes. The developers say the mod will be available for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch and will have full motion controller support.
The development team are still looking for talented people who can help move the project forward and encourage anyone with relevant skills to contact the dev team via Reddit.
Further updates on the project will be available on the Half-Life VR Subreddit.
