Kickstarter Launched for VR Roguelike RPG Edge of Atlantis

A team of Canadian developers at Creality Studios are aiming to bring the spirit of Roguelike games to virtual reality (VR) with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for a procedurally-generated RPG called Edge of Atlantis.

Edge of Atlantis draws heavily on the ancient myth of Atlantis, the story of an ancient, extremely advanced civilisation that sank beneath the waves thousands of years ago. The player sets out on a quest to restore Atlantis, battling an evil sorcerer and travelling through various dimensions.

The aim is to have each play-through be a fresh experience, drawing upon the traditions set by games such as Diablo and Torchlight to have procedurally-generated areas for the players to explore, filled with quests, loot and enemies. There is also a planned ‘Hardcore’ mode, where death means the end of that character, permanently. No revives, no retrieving your loot, just create a completely new character.

The development team also have plans to draw upon the system used in Guild Wars II and have the world respond to player actions and change in response to certain events. Combat is planned to be physics-based, with spells, summons, and combos available as well as the traditional sword and shield.

The Kickstarter campaign is aiming to raise $10,000 (CAD) by 19th May. Funding tiers range from $25 for the Early Bird Gracious Pack, which will get the backer a Steam key upon release, as well as an in-game fox pet and their name in the credits, right through to $5,000 which gets the backers access to the closed alpha and beta tests, he right to have their name and avatar enshrined on an in-game tombstone and multiple cosmetic in-game items and two rare vanity pets, a unicorn and a dragon as well as the chance to name and describe a dungeon.

If funding is successful, the team hope to be able to bring Edge of Atlantis to HTC Vive and Oculus Rift by December 2017. Further information can be found on the official Kickstarter page.
