Knott’s Berry Farm and VRstudios have announced the first details today of a free-roaming, multi-player virtual reality (VR) experience called VR Showdown In Ghost Town.
Due to be located inside the Knott’s Berry Farm Boardwalk Arcade, the VR experience will take guests on a time travel adventure, transporting them to a futuristic version of Knott’s western town of Calico. There they’ll be met by robotic creations and embark on a daring mission with other groups of players to defend the town.
Utilising VRstudios’ custom built VR system, players will use wireless VR headsets and guns to compete against one another for the highest score whilst striving toward shared team goals. At the end of the VR competition, guests will be able to view and compare scores with their fellow opponents.
“We are always looking for new and exciting ways to entertain our guests,” said Christian Dieckmann, Cedar Fair’s Vice President of Strategic Growth. “By using a free-roaming system, we can take full advantage of the capabilities of VR and let our guests be the stars of the show. A majority of people have not yet experienced VR, and we anticipate there will be a lot of interest from guests to have their first taste at our park.”
Exclusive to Knott’s Berry Farm,VR Showdown In Ghost Town will make its debut in April, available to guests at an introductory price of $6.00 USD, in addition to park admission.
VRstudios has been working with a number of outlets to bring its VR technology to a wider audience. In December 2016 the company announced the installation of a VR facility at Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn, Washington, US, offering both one and two-player experiences on three videogames: Time Zombies, Barking Irons and planktOs: Crystal Guardians. While in August last year Universal Orlando teamed up with VRstudios for psychological horror The Repository.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of VRstudios, reporting back with further announcements.
