Niantic, the developers behind popular augmented reality (AR) mobile game Pokémon GO, have announced that the game is getting a tweak in the form of the Global Water Festival.
From 1pm (PDT) Pokémon GO users will be more likely to encounter water-type Pokémon such as Magikarp and Squirtle and their evolutions. Additionally, if users are travelling in places where Water-type Pokémon are often found, such as near rivers, lakes or by the coast, there will be a greater chance of one of the new Johto-region water-type Pokemon. There is even a chance of catching a rare Lapras.
Niantic have also said that a new accessory will be making an appearance in avatar wardrobes – a Magikarp hat.
Phenomenally popular mobile AR videogame Pokémon GO added 80 new Pokemon in a February update, all of which hailed from the Johto region from the Pokémon Gold and Silver videogames. This gave players the chance to catch Pokémon such as Cyndaquil, Swinnub and Totodile. The update also introduced options to customise the player avatar with different outfit and accessory options.
The Pokémon GO Water Festival will last until 1pm (PDT) 29th March 2017.
VRFocus will keep you informed on any further updates to Pokémon GO as they come in.
