Taking place in June 2017 is the annual Sheffield Doc/Fest, returning with more documentary films, the Alternate Realities programme, talks and sessions, including virtual reality (VR). Today the organisers have announced a partnership with The European Film Market (EFM) to present one of the ‘Meet the Docs’ Conversations at the 2017 Berlin festival.
How to walk in someone else’s shoes: Virtual Reality – Empathy, Embodiment and Experience, which will be hosted by Dan Tucker (Curator, Alternate Realities, Sheffield Doc/Fest), with the panel consisting of Darren Emerson, producer and director of the VR documentaries Witness 360: 7/7 and Indefinite, Tilman Scheel (Managing Director, Reelport), and Liz Rosenthal (CEO, Power to the Pixel). The session will take place Friday 10th February, The White Room MGB 2nd Floor. This new collaboration between the two festivals will then see EFM attend Sheffield Doc/Fest in June.
“I am thrilled about the new partnership with our friends at the European Film Market, which further strengthens Doc/Fest’s inspiring relationships with the European and global film and VR communities,” said Liz McIntyre, CEO & Festival Director, Sheffield Doc/Fest. “I firmly believe that we as festivals best serve the needs of filmmakers, creators and other industry stakeholders by working together throughout the year, and I look forward to welcoming the EFM to Sheffield in June.”
Also at the EFM creators and producers will have an opportunity to find out more about Doc/Fest’s soon to be launched VR and interactive commission in partnership with Liverpool’s media arts centre FACT worth £10K, with the winning commission receiving its world premiere at Sheffield Doc/Fest 2017. VRFocus reported last week that the Alternate Realities Market has now opened its doors for submissions, with a deadline of Thursday, 16th March 2017.
Sheffield Doc/Fest 2017 takes place from 9th – 14th June, with standard passes available for £299 GBP + VAT. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
