Don a Rebel X-Wing Fighter Pilot helmet For a New VR Experience at Odeon Cinemas
You can see Star Wars Rogue One: Recon at three of the cinemas.
If you’ve failed to miss it, Walt Disney Studios will be releasing a brand new Star Wars film next week. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will launch worldwide on 15th December, and for UK fans they’ll be able to get a special virtual reality (VR) preview at select Odeon cinemas.
Walt Disney Studios has teamed up with cinema technology company RealD and ILMxLab to create a VR experience where they wear a Rebel X-Wing Fighter Pilot helmet for an immersive preview of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Once seated and wearing the pilot helmet users will enter a VR world, where they can watch the trailer in 3D, or experience Rogue One: Recon: a fully immersive 360-degree experience created by ILMxLAB. Rogue One: Recon builds directly into the storyline of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, putting users in the cockpit of an X-Wing. Starting as a routine mission the experience takes a sharp turn as viewers stumble upon unexpected Imperial presence, and they’ll do anything to keep their secret hidden.
If you’re interested in seeing Rogue One: Recon you’ll be able to see it at one of the following locations:
Odeon Milton Keynes – from Monday 5th December until Tuesday 6th December.
Odeon Leicester Square – Thursday 8th December – Monday 12th December.
Odeon Manchester Trafford Centre – Thursday 15th December – Late January
Each location will have two highly detailed and bespoke X-Wing fighter pilot helmets, close replicas of those in the film, with budding pilots having to choose between Red Squadron or Blue Squadron.
As with any Star Wars film marketing promotion has been extensive. Last month VRFocus reported on the film taking over Gatwick Airport so that travellers could see the Rogue One: Recon content.
