Demolition Derby Gets the Mobile VR Treatment

One of the most popular racing franchises back in the 90’s and early 2000’s was Destruction Derby, allowing players to race round various tracks with the sole purpose of causing as much damage to each other as possible. That theme has carried on through various videogames, coming to mobile in the form of Demolition Derby by Dutch developer Destruction Crew. Today the studio has announced a virtual reality (VR) version.

Demolition Derby VR brings all the chaos of the of the normal mobile title, just with the added immersion of VR. Players start in their own garage from where they can jump straight into a multiplayer demolition derby event against other VR racers from all over the world, or choose to practice offline if they prefer to build up some experience. As players gain experience they’ll unlock XP and badges which are all available as tokens of success in the VR garage.

Nick Timmer, Creative Director at Destruction Crew explains: “We wanted to give our players a VR experience they could enjoy with and against others online, in real-time. The immersiveness of VR and the knowledge that you are actually wrecking another person with a VR headset makes it so much more fun.”

Available to download for free on both Android and iOS platforms, Demolition Derby VR can be used with mobile head-mounted displays (HMDs) such as Google Cardboard, Merge VR or similar. Furthermore, the developer has confirmed additional VR platforms and a wide array of controllers are going to be supported throughout 2017.
