Earlier this month VRFocus reported on a new London, UK-based venue opening in December that will be focused on providing co-working spaces for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) creators called The Realities Centre. The venue will be hosting a couple of MedTech events during next month, but today the organisers have revealed plans for 2017.
Next year The Realities Centre will launch an incubator programme, set to be one of the first in the UK. This will help nurture content in the VR, AR and MR fields, supporting creators through financing, mentoring and other means. Then later in 2017 the centre will launch a MR production studio, with the aim to create world leading content.
“The UK has always been at the forefront of software and hardware development, from the humble beginnings of the original BBC Micro, to ARM, and beyond into today’s highly competitive, global development sector,” said Thomas Gere, Director The Realities Centre. He Continued, “Our aim is to make the UK the market leader in immersive technologies software, and the opening of our first dedicated space will enable access to current technologies, and help shape and influence those of the future.”
A soft opening will take place on 12th December, prior to the first two events, ‘Using Virtual Reality CGI & Haptics MedTech in Surgery’ and MedTech VR Surgery Hackathon. After which the The Realities Centre will host a number of panels and conferences in the coming months, with lectures and seminars on EdTech, Game creation and training in both Unity and Unreal Engine.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of The Realities Centre, reporting back with any further announcements.
