Vuzix has now started its shipment of its Design Validation Test (DVT) units of the M300 augmented reality (AR) Smart Glasses, which is available only to VIP developers and enterprise partners, and although that is a pretty big step in itself, it also marks the beginning of the journey to releasing the final consumer version.
The DVT units are what you can call prototypes of the final official model, and the VIP developer program gave early access to the M300 Smart Glasses. Now Vuzix can finalise its hardware and drivers now that the VIP developers can be the testers of the AR glasses.
“We are thrilled to begin shipping the M300 DVT Smart Glasses to select customers,” said Paul J. Travers, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vuzix in a press release.
“Our VIPs are developing applications in most of the key enterprise markets for smart glasses. Being the world’s first second generation smart glasses, and having the advanced features set requested by our large installed base of M100 customers, sets the M300 apart from the competition. Finally, enterprises have a solution that is deployable for volume applications.”
Vuzix will begin to ship the M300 DVT units to begin testing and planning for moving their existing users of the M100 to the M300, and those key enteprise users are ensured to see “immediate productivity gains as the M300 production units become available”.
To give you an idea, there are over 50 VIP units that have been shipped out already, and additional partners are expected to be announced as new VIP members join.
