The Golden Joystick Awards, dubbed as “the world’s most popular and credible games awards”, has come back round this year, and virtual reality (VR) has come with it. There is a scattering of a few titles amongst some of the biggest ones this year, and it has absolutely dominated the Innovation of the Year category.
For Innovation of the Year, the list of hardware that is up for the award is HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR, the three top head-mounted displays (HMD) in the gaming industry. When it comes to software in the same category, augmented reality (AR) title Pokémon GO slips in there, too.
For the category of Best Audio, the PlayStation VR title Thumper has been nominated. When it comes to Best Multiplayer Game, Steel Crate Games’ Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is the only VR title in the running.
For Gaming Platform of the Year, there is PlayStation 4 and Steam, both of which (of course) support VR, as is Apple iOS and Google Play.
The only title up for Game of the Year that is related to VR and AR is Pokémon GO, and it is also up for Best Handled Mobile Game.
To find out who has won in each of these categories for the 34th Golden Joystick Awards, and if VR and AR is to rack up all the awards it can get, they will all be revealed on 18th November in London.
